Today we celebrate an American hero. His words ring as soundly today as they did 50 years ago.
Many who study Dr. King have noted his mission went beyond racial injustice. He, like most of us, was deeply aware of how corruption, money, and power not only control the narrative but also our political process and because of this, works for very few in this nation. These same people in power also know they must convince groups of people to be against others to distract them from the real threat. Dr. King made it clear that he understood that until we identify and put laws in place to give us a true Democracy versus corruption and money controlling our legislation and narrative, racial injustice will continue to grow.
We, at Make It Fair, can’t help but think what his powerful voice would be saying about our current political climate and the injustice of policy like Citizens United which allows money to be voice so that those with the most wealth have even more power to drown out “we the people”.
Our country is in the throes of political corruption on steroids, which hurts us all, but the most vulnerable, who are at the bottom of the metaphorical pile are being crushed. Today, 80% of Americans say our government isn’t working for us, but the fear of shaking things up keeps us focused on “tranquility and the status quo”. We at Make It Fair humbly hope to play a role in picking up a piece of Dr. King’s mantle and in doing our little bit to continue his work in the fight for “justice and humanity”. Join us!
